What is a Biometric Screening and Why Does It Matter?

What is a biometric screening and why does it matter?

A biometric screening is a series of health measurements and blood tests that can tell whether you are at risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes to name a few. Having this information, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, is especially important because people with certain underlying conditions may have a higher risk of severe COVID-19 illness.

The CDC provides a list of medical conditions associated with a higher risk of severe COVID-19 illness  Click here for a full list of these conditions.

Biometric screening health measurements include height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, and blood pressure; blood tests (a blood sample) include total cholesterol, HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol), triglycerides (fats in the blood) and glucose (blood sugar). Blood sample tests are completed via a finger stick and A1c (testing glucose over a 3-month period) may be added for an additional fee. Additional health markers may be measured if your blood sample is taken using a venipuncture blood draw.

Benefits of a health screening

  • Early detection of possible health issues
  • Monitoring of health conditions that may lead to more serious health issues
  • Awareness of health conditions that may lead to disease, including conditions associated with an increased risk of severe COVID-19 illness

We offer four screening options

1. Onsite

Onsite screening events are an easy and convenient way to help your employees know their numbers, know if they are at risk, and action! Each participant is allotted about 15 minutes with a health screener in a private and confidential setting. Participants receive a health report booklet with their results and are encouraged to share this information with their health care provider. Results are also securely emailed to each participant.

WellAdvantage monitors and follows local, state, and federal mandates, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and recommendations for the safety of both participants and WellAdvantage staff.

2. Physician Form Processing

For those who may not be able to attend an onsite event may choose to have their screening conducted at their physician’s office. Well Advantage provides a Health Care Provider form. Participants take the form to their physician’s office, the form is completed and signed by the physician, and returned to WellAdvantage for processing.

3. LabCorp Vouchers

For those who prefer to have their screening completed at a laboratory, WellAdvantage provides a LabCorp voucher. Participants make a request through WellAdvantage, complete their screening at a LabCorp Patient Service Center, and results are submitted to WellAdvantage.

4. Home Test Kits

A Home Test Kit allows employees to take part in biometric screenings from the comfort of their home. Each kit is essentially a complete mail-in lab test. Upon registering a kit will be mailed to the participant’s address, and then four easy steps later, the process is complete.
